Sustainability isn’t just a goal at Tyseley Energy Park (TEP)—it’s embedded in everything we do. As a site dedicated to pioneering clean energy solutions, we recognise that sustainability is an ongoing journey, requiring collaboration, transparency, and action. That’s where the Green Team comes in.

What is the Green Team?

The Green Team is a dedicated collective of Tyseley Energy Park, Webster & Horsfall employees, tenants and partners who come together every month to shape and implement sustainability initiatives across the site. Led by our Sustainability Manager, Tommy Allsopp, the group plays a vital role in monitoring and improving our environmental impact, ensuring that we continue to reduce emissions and work towards a net zero future.

By fostering open discussions, sharing knowledge, and driving new ideas, the Green Team helps make Tyseley Energy Park a cleaner, greener, and more efficient place to work. Our efforts don’t just benefit the businesses on-site—they contribute to Birmingham’s wider sustainability goals, helping to transform one of the city’s most industrial areas into a hub for green innovation.

Why is the Green Team Important?

1. Addressing Tenant Needs & Improving the Site

The Green Team provides a platform for tenants and employees to raise concerns, suggest improvements, and contribute to sustainability efforts. From reducing waste and improving recycling facilities to enhancing green spaces and introducing low-carbon transport options, the team ensures that sustainability remains a priority across the entire site.

Transparency is key—each meeting provides a space to discuss practical solutions that benefit both businesses and the environment. Whether it’s improving site aesthetics, addressing emissions from operations, or making it easier for tenants to access sustainable resources, the Green Team ensures that no issue goes unheard.

2. Supporting Our Journey to Net Zero

TEP is committed to achieving net zero emissions, and the Green Team plays a crucial role in ensuring we stay on track. Our discussions align with the three key scopes of emissions:

  • Scope 1: Direct emissions from on-site activities, such as energy use in buildings and transport.
  • Scope 2: Indirect emissions from purchased electricity and heating.
  • Scope 3: Wider supply chain emissions, including tenant activities and commuting patterns.

By understanding these different scopes, we can make informed decisions about reducing emissions, improving energy efficiency, and creating a site-wide strategy that works for all tenants. Every Green Team meeting contributes to this process, helping us identify new opportunities for emissions reduction while tracking the impact of ongoing initiatives.

3. Helping Us Win the King’s Award for Enterprise in Sustainable Development

The Green Team’s work was instrumental in helping us secure the King’s Award for Enterprise in Sustainable Development, one of the UK’s highest honours for businesses making a significant impact in sustainability. Our ability to demonstrate an organisational culture focused on sustainability—from governance and strategic planning to on-the-ground tenant engagement—showed that TEP is leading the way in clean energy innovation.

Winning this award underscores the importance of collective action. It’s not just about the technology we invest in, but about how we work together to create long-term change. The Green Team embodies this spirit by ensuring that sustainability is part of the daily conversation, not just an afterthought.

4. Driving Long-Term Impact

The momentum created by the Green Team extends far beyond monthly meetings. By bringing together experts, tenants, and employees, we are fostering a culture where sustainability is an active, continuous effort, rather than a one-off initiative.

Through the Green Team’s work, we have:
Embedded sustainability into our governance, ensuring that it remains central to our strategic plans.
Strengthened relationships with tenants, creating an open forum where businesses can work together towards shared sustainability goals.
Built a culture of transparency, where challenges and successes are shared openly to drive real, measurable change.
Enhanced the work environment, making TEP a more engaging, greener, and forward-thinking space.

Looking Ahead: How the Green Team is Shaping the Future

The journey to sustainability is never finished, and as we push towards net zero, the Green Team will remain at the heart of TEP’s progress. We are continuously exploring ways to reduce emissions, improve working conditions, and create a cleaner, more sustainable future for everyone on site.

Sustainability isn’t just about technology—it’s about people. By ensuring that every voice is heard and every idea is considered, the Green Team allows us to stay ahead of the curve, making TEP a model for sustainable industrial transformation.

We encourage all tenants and partners to get involved, share their ideas, and be part of the change. Together, we can continue to make Tyseley Energy Park a leading force in sustainable development—not just in Birmingham, but across the UK.
