In early October, partners from across our clean energy and innovation ecosystem gathered at Tyseley Energy Park (TEP) for a collaborative roundtable event.
In one room, development partners, onsite organisations, local businesses and key industry leaders, gathered to cooperate, network, and celebrate the achievements and breadth of innovation taking place right here in East Birmingham.
Here is an outline of the key points and developments that are in progress and keeping us excited for the future.
- Voltempo: As industry leaders in electric HGVs, Voltempo shared its vision to grow to a £1bn business in the coming years.
- Dark Green Energy: Sharing its plans for the future, Dark Green Energy discussed its goal to create 600MWh of renewable gas through food and organic waste recycling.
- National Centre for Decarbonisation: This centre aims to decarbonise 20 million UK homes, creating a greener, cleaner, healthier future for Birmingham, the region, and the nation as a whole.
Celebrating these goals and achievements together at a roundtable event demonstrates the unique intersection of heat, hydrogen, energy innovation, recycling, transport, and waste that happens here at TEP.
Collaboration in practice
Collaboration is at the heart of everything we do at Tyseley Energy Park.
Our onsite community here at TEP has access to a growing network of innovators across clean energy, waste, transport and circular economy sectors. Our roundtable events are designed to provide additional opportunity to connect with each other and external partners, and to share learning and insights.
The message from the recent Regional Investment Summit is clear – collaboration between key industry leaders must be in practice, and not in theory if we are to meet the West Midland’s Growth Strategy’s goals.
As the anchor for clean energy innovation in the region, we are uniquely placed to bring together industry leaders, which is increasingly crucial if we are to continue driving progress.
Reflections from June 2025
This isn’t the first event of its kind for Tyseley Energy Park.
In June 2025, we hosted our inaugural roundtable event, which saw the Mayor of the West Midlands, Richard Parker, visit the site alongside Councillor Zafar Iqbal, Ward Councillor for Tyseley and Hay Mills.
Mayor Parker met with our community of industry leaders, innovators, and academics who are shaping Birmingham’s Green Energy and Innovation Quarter.
During the event, it was clear that our strategic priorities align directly with the West Midlands Growth Strategy, which outlines the region’s commitment to inclusive economic growth, delivering jobs and homes, and carbon neutrality by 2041.
Following the success of our first roundtable, expectations for the follow-up roundtable in October were high and we’re pleased to share that we were not disappointed.
Powering growth together
Events like this provide an opportunity to reflect, share learnings, realign our next steps and bring us closer to realising our ambitious growth plans.
Director of Property and Sustainability at TEP, David Horsfall, said of the event:
“It’s brilliant to see our partners come together at our roundtable events. Our mission to transform clean energy innovation in Birmingham is driven through collaboration and so, to see it in practice, reflects everyone’s commitment to regional growth.”
