What a year 2025 has been for Tyseley Energy Park!
From bustling community events to roundtable meetings with industry leaders, visits from students of all ages, to incredible achievements and awards within our membership – 2025 may have been our busiest year to date.
Before we head into the new year, we want to reflect on the key moments that deserve time in the spotlight.
Sustainability at Tyseley Energy Park is the central focus of our work, and we find that progress toward it is driven by people just as much as technology.

Fostering Togetherness
In February, we held a community day where over 50 volunteers from local businesses and the surrounding area came together to clean up the River Cole and the Grand Union Canal. Over the course of the morning, more than 120 bags of waste were collected.
Then, in the afternoon, we hosted a community event attended by over 100 local residents, including a repair café where skilled volunteers helped fix everything from electronics to clothing.
The event also provided an opportunity to discuss the community’s ideas for enhancing local spaces and to gather feedback on projects underway at Tyseley Energy Park.
It was a fantastic chance to come together, celebrate our community, and consider ways we can work collectively to improve the area.

Inspiring The Next Generation
We’ve hosted a series of school visits in 2025, and we have also worked closely with the University of Birmingham, providing students with work experience. This included a summer internship where we jointly developed a project on the future of waste processing technologies in the West Midlands.
In March, we had the pleasure of welcoming NESO’s latest graduate scheme recruits to Tyseley Energy Park. The group had a tour of our site, followed by an engaging session with Voltempo, who are revolutionising the future of electric vehicle charging with its advanced solutions and cutting-edge technology.
Extending Our Ecosystem
In 2025, we’ve enjoyed welcoming external partners to TEP to share the pioneering work led by all of the incredible businesses on site. Some of our top highlights include:
- Welcoming the chair of Natwest’s Board, Chair Rick Haythornthwaite, and board members Gill Whitehead, Roisin Donnelly, and Francesca Barnes for an insight into our clean energy ecosystem and how we’re driving innovation growth in the region.
- Hosting a visit from Hethel Innovation Park and Norfolk County Council, sharing best practice and discussing future opportunities to collaborate.
- Sharing our plans for the future with the NESO West Midlands team, where we spoke about Tyseley Energy Park’s objectives, impact, and how the work we do onsite will drive regional growth.
These visits have proven a poignant way to showcase all the important work that happens onsite at Tyseley Energy Park and builds connections with key organisations driving clean energy growth.

It was an honour to host the Freight Decarbonisation Summit 2025 on its fourth year; the day was action-packed with study groups and technology providers who showcased their transportation solutions, and visitors were able to see the full range of clean fuel infrastructure at Tyseley Energy Park that is shaping the future of sustainable transport.

Tyseley Energy Park was also the host of the last checkpoint of the Greenfleet Explorer EV Rally 2025, where visitors learnt about our work in sustainable mobility. Visitors heard about Hygens’ hydrogen refuelling station, Voltempo EV charging infrastructure and the pioneering end-of-life recycling of rare earth magnets from HyProMag,
Collaboration in Action
Collaboration is at the heart of everything we do at Tyseley Energy Park.
Our members have access to a growing network of innovators across clean energy, waste, transport, and circular economy sectors. To support collaboration with key external partners, we hosted two roundtable events in 2025 to share learning and insights.

Our first roundtable event in June, saw the Mayor of the West Midlands, Richard Parker, visit the site alongside Councillor Zafar Iqbal, Ward Councillor for Tyseley and Hay Mills.
Mayor Parker met with our community of industry leaders, innovators, and academics and experienced the cutting-edge technologies transforming East Birmingham into a clean energy powerhouse onsite at Tyseley Energy Park. Following the success of our first roundtable, we were pleased to host an equally successful follow-up event in October.

The session included development partners, key industry leaders, and local businesses, who gathered to share ideas, develop projects, and contribute to the breadth of innovation taking place here in East Birmingham.
Finally, to wrap up the year, we gathered with businesses onsite to celebrate the festive season! We shared some tasty food made in National Gas‘ kitchen which is powered entirely by hydrogen and the first-of-its-kind in the world. Over lunch, each member organisation was given the opportunity to talk about their achievements over the past 12 months along with plans for the year ahead.

Looking Forward to 2026
This year saw the launch of the West Midlands Growth Plan, a bold vision to transform the region’s economy over the next decade.
With over £88 million already invested in Tyseley Energy Park and more than £1 billion in projected long-term economic value, we’re committed to building the infrastructure, partnerships and momentum required to scale innovation across East Birmingham.
We are home to more than 20 organisations, and over the next 12 months we plan to grow this further with plans underway to build a first of a kind urban anaerobic digestion plant as well a National Centre for Decarbonisation of Heat
Our intention is to build an industry-leading clean energy park that plays a pivotal role in the delivering the West Midlands’ Growth Strategy as well as providing a blueprint for the UK’s transition to Net Zero.
David Horsfall, Director of Property and Sustainability at Tyseley Energy Park, commented: “2025 has been another remarkable year at Tyseley Energy Park, made possible by a group of passionate technology innovators and partners from industry, academics, and local government.
“I want to say a big thank you to all of the incredible organisations that make TEP what is it today as well as our dedicated team for their hard work and support throughout the year. Here’s to 2026 and another year powering clean growth!”
