We at Tyseley Energy Park (TEP) are proud to announce the graduation of the fourth cohort from the HSBC UK-supported Climate Innovation Platform (CIP). Thirteen entrepreneurial clean tech businesses have successfully completed the ‘Low Carbon Energy Solutions, Innovator Challenge,’ marking a significant milestone in their journey towards creating sustainable energy solutions.

Delivered by the University of Birmingham in partnership with Energy Systems Catapult and supported by HSBC UK, the CIP provides small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with tailored support packages. These packages are designed to accelerate the commercialisation of innovative energy technologies and services, driving solutions that help decarbonise our economy and promote green growth.

Our fourth cohort includes the following clean tech businesses:

  • Naxca
  • Nusku
  • Anionix
  • Ki Hydrogen
  • Dwellow
  • Lux Industries
  • Gauge19
  • MeterZ
  • Cognition Cloud
  • Casa
  • AI
  • Aeon Energy
  • Remit Zero

These SMEs have had access to a comprehensive range of opportunities throughout the project, such as:

Participation in Energy System Catapult’s launchpad incubation programme

Business development support, including financial planning, start-up mentoring, market research, IP protection, regulatory advice, grant writing, bid development, and investor access

Free incubation space on our site at Tyseley Energy Park, fostering a vibrant cleantech community in East Birmingham, now a dedicated Growth Zone

The chance to pitch their innovations to HSBC UK representatives

We are delighted to see some of these SMEs grow within our incubation space at TEP and are excited to support their continued success.

Reflections from Cohort 4 Graduates:

Russell Murchie, Founder and CEO of Nusku, said “Taking part in the Climate Innovation Platform has been invaluable. I learnt a lot from the masterclass modules in particular and the challenge for us now is how to integrate these learnings into our business structure. “A highlight for me was interacting with other members of the cohort, learning from both their experience and progress to-date.”

Alex Lawrence-Berkeley of Anionix emphasised the impact of the programme: “The CIP programme’s expert workshops helped us identify and tackle critical challenges. The support from HSBC, Tyseley Energy Park, Energy Systems Catapult, HyDEX, and the University of Birmingham has been invaluable.”

Graduation Ceremony Highlights

Robert Horsfall, Head of Finance and Strategic Projects stated “It’s been fantastic supporting CIP over the past 4 years. We’ve developed a robust Clean Tech cluster at TEP, aligning with our collaborative goals alongside the University of Birmingham and other stakeholders. This lays a strong foundation for the Green Innovation Quarter in East Birmingham. We’ve welcomed numerous Clean Tech entrepreneurs to our site, and importantly, retained several businesses post-CIP graduation. This ensures we keep innovative enterprises in East Birmingham, crucial for our region’s prosperity. Some of these include Voltempo, Microcabs, Hy-Met, Salinity, and Faraday Battery.”

Professor Martin Freer, Director of the Birmingham Energy Institute, celebrated the cohort’s achievements: “It has been a pleasure to witness the progress these incredible innovators have made. We extend our sincere gratitude to HSBC, Energy Systems Catapult, and Tyseley Energy Park for their unwavering support.”

Paul Jordan, Business Leader – Innovator Support at Energy Systems Catapult, stressed the importance of clean tech innovation: “To achieve Net Zero by 2050, we need bold ideas from clean tech innovators. The Climate Innovation Platform is a hotbed of collaboration and creative thinking. It has been a delight to watch these SMEs grow.”

Since its inception in 2021, the CIP programme has supported over 85 climate-focused businesses, providing training, funding, mentoring, and expertise to advance their entrepreneurial journeys.

At Tyseley Energy Park, we are dedicated to advancing innovation and supporting the growth of clean tech SMEs. We congratulate all graduates of Cohort 4 and eagerly anticipate their future successes.
